  •     Back by popular (well, not really) demand, here is a new entry. I have about 1,000 pictures or so from Thailand all in a photo album, which means I have to scan a lot of choise ones in a upload them, and then link them to here, so give me some time, but I'll see if I can't pull up a few stories. Be warned, this will be long.

    Narita Airport, Tokyo

This airport deserves some honorable mention. We had a couple hour layover here after flying for about 10 hours or so. Naturally, the first place we went was to the bathroom, but after that we kind of wandered around. Nice place actually, very nice. We found the little food court, and got some candy. Japanese candy is the best candy I've ever had bar none. (Insert Japanese candy pic) We had a few different varieties, and I had saved some of the more ridiculous wrappers, but they got thrown away, however, there are some pictures here. The current theory on why the candy is so great, is because it is made with happiness. Here's what happens when you eat it (Insert happy candy face pic).

After getting some candt, we sat down to eat it, and for some reason, a large flock of Japanese girls started giggling and smeaking looks our way (I know, we're all very good looking gentlemen). I wish I had a picture of what we looked like, but it was basically 3 white kids, in flannel pajama pants (so nice to fly in) all string out looking from the plane ride, in a sea of asians, Anyways, one of the girls came up, and asked to take a picture with us, so we obliged, and my only regret is that we didn't get a picture with them. I can't remember if they were hot or not. but that is uninportant because about 5 minutes later we saw none other than Bob Sapp.
We were sitting on out little bench near the japanese girls, and my friend Garrett was sitting across from us when all of a sudden he gets this weird look, and just says "Hey look, is that Bob Sapp?" all casually at first. I looked, and saw a large black man, but he didn't really look like Bob Sapp, but my friend Julian agree'd it was probably him, so we decided to go get his autograph or a picture or something. Unfortunately for us, it really was Bob Sapp, and that meant he did indeed have long ass legs, that made his walk seem like a joggin place to us. He boarded a plane before we could reach him.

One last thing that deserves some mention were the "toilets" or should I say urinal on the ground:

You can see the water around it where it was recently cleaned. I went in about a minute before this, and there was a poop nugget next to it. I just had to get a pic.

    Bangkok

Ok, so we stayed here for about a week (5 days maybe) in the Sukhimvit area (god I probably butcheres that spelling) at a rather nice hotel whose name escapes me at the moment. The first, and I mean first thing we noticed upon arriving in Bangkok, was the horrid smell. It was dubbed "Shour-Meelk" (or rather, sour milk in a weird voice). We found out the next day (we got in at like, midnight) the cause, and that was open sewage throughout the city in 10000000% humidity and 95~ degree weather. Not a good mixture.

For the most part, we went to temples, or "Wat's" in the day, and tried to go to fights at night. Unfortunately, we never made it to Rajdamnoen, but we went to Lumpinee twice, and got almost front row seats the second time we went. Instead of telling the long tales of our temple visits, I'll get some choice photos up and give some short descriptions. Hopefully, this will cut down on the length of this monster.
Bue before I do that, I'd like to tell you a little about our taxi driver, Ep. We met Ep outsie of our hotel, where tons of people hang out trying to give you rides. He offered us some rediculous price or around 200 Baht to drive us around all day to anywhere we wanted in the city. Sweet deal! So, we basically had him drive us the whole time we were in Bangkok because he let us save so much money. Now, Ep was an alright guy, but the dude was a fuckin pervert. And not just the innocent "Oh, that kind of young looking girl looks cute", but more along the lines of telling us stories like this:
" Me and my wife, we have daughter, she two years old, so she knows nothing. This morning, my wife and I have sex, and we having sex, and I look over and she watching us. She loves to watch us all the time."...
That was an akward momment, even more so when we realized that he was drunk, and driving us to a "ping-pong" show which I'll talk about later. But, aside from that, telling us to tell thai girls "Kon he suey" (you have a beautifull pussy) instead of "Kon Suey" (You are beautiful) but not telling us the difference, and claiming that the Thai boxer who won gold in his weight division at the olympics was his cousin, he was an alright guy. I just wanted to mention him here, because sadly I don't think I have a picture of him.

This is Big Buddha, or something similar to that name. As you can tell, he's freakin huge. Pretty cool, we took a river ferry down river instead of using Ep today, and we got a ride around town from a tuk-tuk driver with the meanest mean mug I've ever seen while driving. I got a pic of me and Julian in the tuk-tuk, with Julian trying to imitate his face.

Horrible quality I know, but better than nothing. And no, we're not moving, but it sure looks that way don't it. Here are some pics of the statues and other such things around Big Buddha.

After this we went to another temple, and talked to a monk. I was scared we were being disrespectfull in that we didn't know the proper greeting for him, but he spoke english pretty well, and didn't seem too put off by us. We got this sweet pic. We tried to take a pic of the Buddha inside the temple, but it didn't turn out. From left to right we have me, Julian, the monk, and Garrett.

Another thing to point out, is that traveling around Bangkok is a hassle in and of itself. This is what we had to endure on a daily basis.

*Something I should note is that many of the pictures have a bit of a finger in them, you can thank Garrett for that*

Here's some pics from a river tour we took on the Chao Phraya river. Ep kind of conned us into going (he could be a bastard like that) and it was kind of a rip off, but an alright experience. We got to go to a zoo'ish place, and some other cool spots. It was sad too see how badly polluted it was with garbage and other crap. We saw people bathing in it too.
    (river tour pics)

We went to this place, which up untill now I thought was THE Bangkok snake farm, but after digging a little, it would seem that we went to some weird underground zoo/snake farm of some sort. I wish I could find that pamphlette's from that place so I could look into it more. It seems kind of creepy now...
    (Animal/snake pics)

Ok, time for another update I guess. I just had to give a 3 minute speech in public speaking about myself and I talked about Thailand, so here we go. I believe we left off at the snake place that apparently wasn't the legit snake farm...

After the snake farm (might have actually been the next day, not quite sure) Ep took us to the major tourist spot in Bangkok, the Grand Palace. I got tons of pics from this place, and it was amazingly beautiful. There was a giant mural depicting some epic battle between demons and stuff around the whole thing, there was all sorts of traditional Thai architecture, etc. At one point, out of the corner of our eye, we spotted a gaggle of Japanese tourists all wearing yellow hats, I mean, this was like 20-30 people all in yellow hats walking around. So naturally we decided to tryt and get a picture with them, but lo and behold, we went afound a corner after them, and thye were gone. Dissapeared into thin air, downtroden and lonely we continued to look around at the Palace, when out of nowhere the Yellow Hats appeared again! We got this sweet pic of them, as well as other pics of the Grand palace.
    (insert Grand Palace Pics)

Also, we went to see MT fights and shit twice in Bangkok. We made it to Lumpini, but no Rajdamnoen, as Raj was on the other side of the city from us. It was your average fight atmosphere, with a lot of gambling on the side. Also, an interesting thing we noticed, was everytime a fighter got a knee on his opponent, his team (and fans) would shout HEYYYY, suoer loud. It was pretty fun. I don't really feel like writing right now, but figured I owed you guys an update. Especially you kids in Alaska and what not.  Hehehe =)
I"m done for now, more later.

  •   Alright, I'll try and recap the nights fights. I must say, there were really only about 4 REALLY good ones, and there was one REALLY bad one. And Hormuz, it's funny you mention it, as we were driving there I was thinking maybe we should swing by and pick you up, or thought you might already have tickets for it. Hehehe. Anyways, I went with my friend's Julian and Garrett, and a friend of Garrets named Choppa (well, his names Diego, but everyone calls him Choppa). Choppa bought our tickets online for us, so there was no hassle at all.
Well, without further ado, lets get this show on the road. Oh yes, and I'll be attemtping to add some images when possible, but it may take me a few tries:

          Cung Le

Cung Le defeated Brian Ebersole via 5 x 2 min rounds Unanimous Decision (185 lb. limit San Shou rules) Le retains ISKA North American San Shou Professional Championship

Cung Le was apparently just off Knee and Elbow surgery, but he still looked pretty damned good. I'd never seen him fight before, just heard of him, and I was rather impressed. He hacked the hell out of Ebersole's leg, untill he had to switch stances, at which point Cung Le attacked his opponents fresh leg. I though for sure that the guy was going to go down from the leg kicks, but he held in there. Le looked tired after the first round, and seemed to have poor endurance, most likely due to his recent surgery's, but he still put up a great fight. Granted, I never got to see his famed "Scissor leg takedown" nor any takedowns from Le for that matter, save maybe one or two generic ones. All the same, it was a pretty good fight.

      Gary Owens

Gary Owens defeated Morong May via 3rd Round TKO (scheduled for 4 x 2 min rounds) (May could not answer the bell for the fourth and final scheduled round) (147 lb. limit Muay Thai rules)

Morong May was by far my favorite fighter of the night. He was a small little guy who looked like a nice Thai man. I think he had nicely parted hair, and came out to some sort of traidtional sounding asian music. As soon as he came out, I wanted him to win. Even mroe so when I saw how big Owens was compared to him. The fight started off with Owens dominating the first 30 seconds or so of the first round. Then all of a sudden, May opened up the whup-ass. I mean, this guy was amazing. He rocked Owens till he was more or less out on his feet, but when he went in for the kill (Owens was against the ropes dazed at this point) he got only a small flurry before the ref broke it up. Still not sure why, but I think Ownes may have tied up with him. Anyways, the first round clearly went to May. The second round started off alright for him, but I believe that Owens's size/weight advantage over May started to take it's toll. Both fighters got in good shots, but iirc, this round looked like it belonged to Owens. At the sound of the bell for the third round, Morong May just got up and left. He walked back down the walkway to where he had made his entrace, shrugging and smiling as he went. Seemed like he didn't even care. I was a little dissapointed, but I think Owens thrashed his laegs rather badly in that 2nd round.

     Jose Pallacios

Jandel David defeated Jose Palacios via 3 x 2 min rounds Unanimous Decision (154 lb. limit International Kickboxing rules)

I didn't really see this match. It started about the same time me and my friends walked into the staium, but before we had gotten our FREE Cung Le posters, the fight card thingy, and some nice nachos (Nachos not free). I think we got down there right as the fight was ending. But I saw a few glimpses of it, and remember seeing a lot of clinch knee's.

    Lynda Loyce

Lynda Loyce defeated Rebecca Donnelly via 5 x 2 min rounds Unanimous Decision.(125 lb. limit Muay Thai rules) Loyce wins vacant ISKA World Bantamweight Muay Thai Amateur Championship

This fight was just kind of sad. I mean, it was one of those things where I was sitting in the audience thinking that I could whoop one of their asses, and then realizing that the idea really wasn't that far fetched. I just remember the whole time pointing out so many different gaps in both fighter's games. I'll give em this though, they both did get some solid shots in. Besides that, Choppa tried to convince me to mac on one of them after the fight. I was to scared...

Chris Cariaso defeated Mike Baldwin via 4 x 2 min rounds Split Decision (137 lb. limit Muay Thai rules)

This fight was pretty interesting. Chris Cariaso, whom I believe is a trainer at Fairtex, was about a foot shorter than Mike Balswin. As soon as he came out I thought he was gonna get whomped on, but somehow he pulled out his little man rage and suprised me. This fight kept going to the ground, as whenever they clinched Baldwin seemed pulled down to Cariaso's height, where he would then lose his balance.

Josh “The Punk” Thomson defeated Toshiyuki Nakagawa via 1st Round KO (54 seconds) (scheduled for 4 x 2 min rounds) (154 lb. limit Muay Thai rules)

Wow, this fight hurt to watch. I literally felt sorry for Nakagawa. Basically, Josh Thompson came out and freakin whomped on this guy. He had almost no respect for the guy, and instead of feeling him out, just threw kick after kick to his legs. After getting knocked down 2-3 times, the guy just couldn't get up. His legs were wrecked. Seriously, it was a slaughter.

Jon Ellcessor defeated Ryan Roy via 5 x 3 min rounds Split Decision (154 lb. limit Muay Thai rules)

This fight was pretty good. Ellcessor seemed to have some friends in the crowd, specifically right behind where we were sitting. The guy used push kicks like Buakaw. Just kept throwing em up to the face, and really controlling the guy with them. If I remember right, I think Ellcessor peaked around the 3rd round, and Roy started making a comeback the last two rounds. The decision went to Ellcessor, but some people were a little skeptical of it. Good match overall, both people looked good.

Travis Johnson defeated Laurence Baker via 4 x 2 min rounds Unanimous Decision (185 lb. limit International Kickboxing rules)

    Can't remember right now

Rudi Ott defeated Carlo Predur via 4 x 2 min rounds Unanimous Decision (166 lb. limit San Shou rules)

    Can't remember right now

Ra’Karma Young defeated William Syrapai via 4 x 3 min rounds Unanimous Decision (148 lb. limit Muay Thai rules)

Ok, before I get any farther, I gotta mention something. Ra'Karma Youngs nickname was "Saucy McSauce"... Can you even TRY to argue with that? I mean, when they announced it, and my friends all just looked at eachother with a nice little  o_O? look. 'Twas great. Anyways, not only was Ra'Karma a good fighter, he was also a pretty good entertainer. He kept trying to amp up the crowd after every round, and was just kinda charismatic in general. I remember him dominating most of the fight.

    Saucy McSauce...

About Me

  • I'm just getting into Muay Thai and Pankration. I actually made this at first, as a way to help me remeber peoples names from my classes (seriously, I suck at remebering names), as well, as a way to share my learning with others.
